Grants Associate

Overview

The Housing Collective is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Grants Associate to join our team. This part-time position (32 hours per week) will play a critical role in supporting the organization’s private grant-writing, prospecting, reporting, and fund development efforts. Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer, the Grants Associate will help secure funding that advances The Housing Collective’s mission and initiatives.

Reports to: Chief Philanthropy & Communications Officer 
Location: Hybrid, Bridgeport, CT
Compensation: $45 - $65k per year with benefits / 32 hours a week

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing and Submission:

  • Draft, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry to private foundations, corporations, and other funding sources.
  • Tailor proposals to align with the goals and priorities of potential funders. 

Grant Prospecting:

  • Research and identify new grant opportunities that align with the Housing Collective’s mission and programs.
  • Maintain a database of prospective and existing funders, including deadlines, requirements, and points of contact.

Grant Reporting:

  • Collaborate with program and finance staff to track data, outcomes, and spend for all private grants at least quarterly.
  • Collaborate with finance and program staff to support preparation and submission of timely and accurate grant reports to funders.

Fund Development Duties:

  • Maintain and update the organization’s donor database to ensure accuracy and confidentiality of donor information.
  • Track donor contributions, generate reports, and analyze donor trends to support fundraising strategies.
  • Prepare and send donor acknowledgments, including thank-you letters and other forms of appreciation.
  • Assist in coordinating donor engagement activities, such as events or communications campaigns.
  • Collaborate with team members to implement strategies for cultivating and stewarding donor relationships.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with program staff to understand funding needs, goals, and priorities.
  • Coordinate with finance staff to ensure accurate budgeting and financial reporting for grants.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain organized records of grant submissions, communications, and reporting deadlines.
  • Track and monitor the status of active grants and pending applications.
  • Maintain Donor Database

Other Duties:

  • Assist with other development and communications tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or a related role.
  • Experience with donor database management and private foundations is a plus.

Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor database software (e.g., Salesforce, Bloomerang, or similar).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
