Data Analysis Intern
Status: Part-time, Hybrid

Purpose:
The Housing Collective is seeking a Data Analysis Intern to support our work in Connecticut. The Innovation Lab is an initiative of The Housing Collective (HC) dedicated to maximizing the power of data, research, and lived expertise to find innovative solutions to housing instability and homelessness in Connecticut and more broadly. HC’s Innovation Lab is rooted in curious inquiry, rigorous analysis, and inclusive action.
The Lab combines technological innovation, data analysis and visualization, lived experience, equity-rooted storytelling, needs analyses, system modeling, training and technical assistance, and participatory action research to end homelessness and create equitable housing opportunities for all in Connecticut.
The Data Analysis intern will work closely with the Lab staff (Data and Impact Manager and Interim Director) to manage, organize, and analyze Lab data across all Housing Collective efforts. This will include survey responses, client information, housing data, and more. Intern may be asked to collaborate with Lab staff to prepare data visually for presentation to stakeholders.
This position is designed for a student or early-career professional looking to develop their skills in data analysis in service of community good.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with real-world housing data and analytics while receiving mentorship and skill-building support from experienced professionals.
This is a part-time internship requiring approximately 15-20 hours per week for the summer internship and 10-15 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, with flexible scheduling options. The role may be remote or hybrid, depending on organizational needs and the intern's location. Compensation of $20 per hour is provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Data Analysis Intern will play a vital role in driving system change and improving programs by delivering meaningful data insights to key decision-makers. By transforming raw data into clear, actionable information, they will support policymakers, service providers, and community advocates in making informed, equity-focused decisions that strengthen housing systems and enhance service delivery.
Manage, Organize, and Analyze Data
- Gather Data: May include conducting surveys, pulling reports from HMIS or smartsheets, or locating datasets from regional, state, and national databases.
- Clean Data: Review data for duplicates, errors, or outliers. Prepare data in spreadsheets, pivot tables, or simple reports for Lab and Housing Collective staff. Ensure that data is of high quality and that the results are accurate.
- Model Data: Assist in creating clear visualizations in answer to questions being asked by Housing Collective staff and partners
Additional projects and job duties may arise or be created depending on the intern’s interests and Housing Collective’s needs.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in some or all of the following technology platforms:
- Microsoft Excel

- R or Python
- SAS
- Microsoft Power BI
- Jupyter Notebooks
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work strategically
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
